Jon’s new venture

Selected vintage and antique maps, restored and printed as fine art giclée prints

The Map Merchant is born

Jon has now broadened his impressive collection of local maps by incorporating a carefully curated selection of historical maps, charts, and graphics. Each piece is thoughtfully chosen for its significance and aesthetic appeal, reflecting a rich tapestry of the past. Once selected, they undergo a process of digitisation, where they are scanned and transformed into high-quality digital files. Following this, they are cleaned and repaired to restore their original vibrancy and detail, ensuring that every nuance is preserved. The final step involves professional printing on fine art papers, resulting in stunning reproductions that not only celebrate the artistry of cartography but also serve as unique decorative pieces for any space.

Where it all started

For Jon, it’s all about place names and aesthetics, he chooses which maps, charts and graphics he restores very carefully - the way they are drawn, the colours used, and even the typography, all play a part in his choices.

A different selection

The new growing collection, includes maps, graphics and charts mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries. Many taking hours, or even days of restoration before being allowed anywhere near a printer.
This new range will be available soon.

“I've always been fascinated by maps and cartography. A map tells you where you've been, where you are, and where you're going -- in a sense it's three tenses in one.”
